About the Course

In this Triton Talk, Jan Hintermeister will discuss the intersection of ornithology (the branch of zoology dedicated to the study of birds) and art with a focus on Nathan Oliveira’s artwork. He will discuss some aspects of birds in human cultural history which necessitates looking at art. Please join us as Jan helps us to reflect on the interpretation of birds in artistic representation.

Jan Hintermeister

Jan Hintermeister is a naturalist and has been a birder in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 40 years. Among his various contributions to the birding community, he has 36 years of experience as a volunteer for the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory, including 12 years as a board member and board chair.

He has 7 years of experience as a volunteer bander and hawkwatcher with the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory, and has served as a docent for various organizations such as the Mid-Peninsula Regional Open Space, Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority and Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve. He has also been a member of the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Commission for 12 years.
