The Triton Museum of Art’s 2009 Statewide Drawing and Print Competition & Exhibition will be on view from December 12, 2009 through March 14, 2010. This year’s competition was juried by noted artist and writer, Roberta Loach. From more than 600 entries she selected an exhibition of drawings and prints that convey the diversity of both mediums. Approximately 70 works were selected. Awards were given in both drawing and printmaking categories. This year’s award winners are:

-- 1st Place Drawing: Frank Ansley, Sundance, Butch, and Wyatt, 2007, ink and watercolor

-- 2nd Place Drawing: Jay Mercado, Migrant Field Labor, 2007, charcoal on cardboard

-- 3rd Place Drawing: Joyce McEwen Crawford, The Guardian, 2009, graphite and colored pencil

-- Honorable Mention Drawing: Sandra Jones, Pain of Regret, 2009, charcoal

-- Honorable Mention Drawing: Cuong Nguyen, Chelee, 2009, pastel

-- 1st Place Printmaking: Art Hazelwood, Pillars of Society, 2007, color linocut

-- 2nd Place Printmaking: Dana Harris, Reading in Bed Together, 2009, lithograph and silkscreen on fabric

-- 3rd Place Printmaking: Kristin Lindseth Rivera, Conflicts of Faith, 2008, intaglio print

-- Honorable Mention Printmaking: Susan Cartwright, What’s Happening, 2009, monotype

-- Honorable Mention Printmaking: Madeline Ettin, A Square in Kazimievz, 2007, monotype
