SummerStudio 2017

SummerStudio is an immersion program in the visual arts involving cultural/historical information, technical instruction and artistic production. Based upon our outstanding exhibitions, the curriculum builds from basic drawing techniques to multimedia projects over the course of an exciting five-day program. Each week students will work with exhibiting artists and professional educators in the art studio, the galleries and our 7-acre Sculpture Garden to create new projects. Small class sizes ensure individual attention and artistic development. This program is offered for grades kindergarten to ninth grade.

EXPLORATIONS IN DRAWING & PAINTING

Experiment with strong lines, vibrant color, and composition to learn new techniques that will bring your artwork to life! Emphasis will be on layout, composition, and color relationship. Students will build skills in graphite, charcoal, watercolors, chalk, acrylic, and more. Students will look at contemporary artists to draw inspiration and hone their visual vocabulary.

EXPERIMENTATION IN PRINTMAKING

What can be more fun than a week full of printmaking! This fun class explores different printmaking methods, from direct monotypes to carving linoleum blocks. Pair the physical process of PLATEMAKING with the experimental process of printing, using composition and color in a playful way. A variety of textures and materials create unique and expressive pieces of work. All materials are non-toxic.

World Art

Let’s take a whirlwind tour of the continents, exploring the rich and distinct visual cultures that color our world. Students will build a visual vocabulary and gain exposure to a survey of art historical movements from all over the world. They will interact with a variety of media and techniques to create truly unique works.

Ipad Art

Fire up your child’s creativity and get to use their iPad to hone their sketching skills and create collages. Art is a way to unleash your child’s creativity for brain and one motor development. This class will take the iPad from gaming to an “on the go” studio. All skill levels welcome. Participants must have their own iPad/Android tablet. Once your child is registered, there will be an additional expense of $11 to download the necessary apps.

Mask Making Magic

Learn about and make all kinds of masks! Develop skills by making masks that are artistic expressions, and get familiar with basic mask forms. Once you get the hang of it, level up your masks with textures, color and strong sculptural designs for creating dynamic and wearable works of art!

Mixed Media Sculpture

Working in 3-D will be the focus of this week. In this class, students will explore form as they mold, sculpt, build, and assemble. Students will learn to work with wire, plaster, paper-maché, recycled materials and more as they sculpt the world as they imagine and dream it. Emphasis is placed on developing an idea, problem solving, and experimentation.

Ipad Creativity

With iPads/tablets, children now have access to powerful tools for creativity. In this hands-on session, your child will learn to create animations, 3D sculptures, eBooks, music and movies, while developing critical technical skills they can apply at school - and it’s a lot of fun! Participants must have their own iPad/tablet. Once your child is registered, there will be an additional expense of $11 to download the necessary apps.
